Standoff Annotation

OLA adopts a standoff approach to annotation. Any kind of annotation is treated as a layer of annotation kept separate from other layers of annotation. Unlike inline annotations, such a strategy guarantees that different, potentially infinite, kinds of annotations can be linked, directly or indirectly, to one other in a graph structure. OLA provides data serialized as PAULA XML, an open access standard for standoff annotation.
